DefenseThe United States has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Israel covering AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and associated support, with an estimated value of $3.8 billion, following formal notification to Congress.
The authorization covers up to 30 AH-64E helicopters, the most recent production version of the Apache. Israel does not currently operate the E variant. The Israeli Air Force fields a fleet of 48 Apaches made up of earlier AH-64A and AH-64D models, and the proposed sale would represent a generational update of its attack helicopter capability.
Beyond the aircraft themselves, the notification outlines a package that includes engines, fire control radars, electro-optical and night vision sensor systems, secure radios, navigation equipment, defensive aids, training systems, simulators, and long-term logistics and technical support. As with other FMS cases, the scope reflects a maximum ceiling rather than a finalized configuration.
The US government said the proposed sale is intended to support Israel’s rotary-wing attack force and ensure continuity as older Apache variants age. The notification states that Israel would be able to absorb the aircraft and associated systems without difficulty.

Boeing is identified as the prime contractor for the helicopters, with Lockheed Martin supplying mission systems and avionics. No offset arrangements have been announced, and any industrial participation would be defined during later negotiations between Israel and the contractors.
Implementation of the potential sale would involve limited deployments of US and contractor personnel to Israel over several years to support aircraft introduction, training, and fielding. The notification adds that the proposed transaction would not affect US defense readiness or alter the basic military balance in the region.
As with all FMS notifications, the approval does not constitute a binding contract. Final quantities, configuration, and total cost will depend on negotiations, Israeli budget approval, and the eventual signing of one or more sales agreements.
