The State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of six Boeing CH-47F Chinook Block II helicopters to the United Arab Emirates.
The approval was issued on Monday by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DAC), which notified Congress of the possible sale.
The package also includes engines, weapons, systems and support for an estimated cost of US$ 1.32 billion.
The CH47Fs requested by the United Arab Emirates will be equipped with an air-to-air refueling probe and long-range fuel tanks.
“The UAE will use these assets in search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support, and counterterrorism operations,” the agency said.
In addition to Boeing, the Honeywell Engine Company, which will supply the engines, will be contracted, among other suppliers. The sales process is expected to take up to 60 months to implement the aircraft, provide training and logistical support, among other things.
The United Arab Emirates are already operators of the Chinook, of which they have 28 helicopters, according to Flight Global’s World Air Forces 2025.
