The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed the purchase of six Boeing 737 aircraft in a move to bolster Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation flights. The $140 million acquisition was announced on Wednesday, with the aircraft set to enter service this year.

The purchase, first reported by the Washington Post, supports the Trump administration’s objective of deporting 1 million immigrants in 2025.

The new aircraft are intended to increase operational efficiency and allow ICE to reduce reliance on charter services.

“We’re happy to see the media highlighting the economical and innovative ways the Trump administration is fulfilling the American people’s mandate for mass deportations of criminal illegal immigrants,” said DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin.

According to DHS, the new initiative is expected to save $279 million in taxpayer funds by enabling more efficient flight operations.

The procurement was made through Daedalus Aviation, which holds a contract worth nearly $1 billion with DHS to support voluntary self-deportation programs.

Currently, most deportation flights are operated by charter carriers and some military aircraft.
