VietJet and JAL ink deals for Airbus jet orders
Airbus used the Farnborough Airshow as a stage to sign sales contracts for A321neo, A330neo and A350 jets with Asian customers who had already announced commitments with these aircraft.
VietJet confirmed an agreement for 20 A330-900s at a total cost of US$7.4 billion and which had been the reason for a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February.
The new widebodies will replace the seven A330-300s currently in service but will also allow the Vietnamese airline to expand its long-haul flight network.
The A330-900 is the largest passenger capacity variant of the A330neo family and is capable of flying 7,200 nm (13,300 km) non-stop.
Japan Airlines confirms the A321neo and more A350s
After announcing a deal for 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and ten more purchase options, Japan Airlines finally closed the order for 20 new A350 and 11 A321neo.
The acquisition plan had been announced by the Japanese company’s board in March, but until now it has not been formalized.
JAL now has 52 firm orders for the A350, including the A350-1000 variant. The A321neo is its first narrow-body Airbus and will replace the Boeing 767 on domestic flights.
