Less than a year after securing an order for 20 A330-900 jets, Vietjet has signed a new contract with Airbus for an additional 20 widebodies of the same model.
The agreement was signed in Hanoi by Vietjet Chairman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Wouter van Wersch, Chairman of Airbus International, during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam.
This brings Vietjet’s total order to 40 A330-900 widebodies, representing a major expansion in the airline’s long-haul, high-density flights, which currently operates just seven A330-300s.
The company said it plans to increase flights on high-capacity routes in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as introduce new long-haul services to Europe.

“Modern Airbus aircraft, with the latest levels of efficiency and lower fuel consumption, have accompanied Vietjet’s growth and will continue to support our global flight network expansion. Vietjet remains dedicated to delivering greater connectivity and sustainable air travel for millions of passengers and around the world,” said Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet.
Vietjet’s fleet is comprised primarily of Airbus aircraft, including 53 A320ceo family jets and 36 A321neos. It also has two recently leased C909 (ARJ21) regional jets.
Vietjet’s A330-300s fly to destinations in Australia, India and Kazakhstan. The carriers did not share a delivery schedule, however.
