Mexicana de Aviación began commercial operations on Monday with its new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The first scheduled flight departed from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Mexico City to Tulum.

On Saturday, the state-owned carrier received its third E195-E2, registered XA-MXC, joining the first two aircraft delivered in July. It was also the first time the three aircraft appeared together at AIFA.

“The arrival of this third aircraft, along with the two recently received at Felipe Ángeles International Airport, shows that the airline is ready to connect Mexico through a virtuous triangle: accessibility, comfort, and punctuality,” said General Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, CEO of Mexicana.

Mexicana plans to operate a fleet of 20 E2s (10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2) under its agreement with Embraer. Two more aircraft are scheduled to arrive before the end of 2025, enabling the company to return the Boeing 737-800 NG currently in service to the Mexican Air Force.

Mexicana de Aviación was rescued from bankruptcy by the country’s government and has been offering lower-priced flights in the country as a counterpoint to private carriers such as Aeromexico.
